VALDOSTA —
James Douglas Burgdorf Sr., 83, of Adel, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Mr. Burgdorf was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Cedartown, Ga., as the youngest and last surviving son of the late August William Burgdorf and Lillian Edmondson. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. Mr. Burgdorf was a graduate of the University of Georgia and founding member of the Adel Round Table Club. He retired as Corporate Controller from Del-Cook Lumber Co. after 30 years of service and was a active member and served as deacon and treasurer of the First Baptist Church in Adel.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ruth Smith Burgdorf of Adel; three children and a daughter-in-law, Jay Burgdorf of Adel, Carol Burgdorf Lackes of Portland Ore., and Paul and Renee Barfield Burgdorf of McDonough; four grandchildren, Jake, Brittany, Katie, and Anna; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burgdorf was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Cecil Lackes.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Ruffin and Dr. Milton Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Adel. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.purvisfh.com.
