VALDOSTA —
Peggy Carter Jones, 86 of Lakeland, Ga. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 in the Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 28, 1926 in Avon Park, Fla. to the late Leroy L. Carter and Lou Annie (Webb) Carter. She was a Cadet in the Grady Nursing Program where she graduated in 1947. She worked as a Registered Nurse for a Total of 38 years. She worked at Moody Air Force Base Hospital for 29 years, Central Georgia Railroad Hospital in Savannah, Dr. Dan Terry in Homerville, Smith Hospital in Hahira, and Louis Smith Memorial Hospital in Lakeland, Ga. After retiring she and her husband owned and operated the Bed and Breakfast known as the “Jones Hotel” for 10 Years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Lanier Cancer Society, and The Red Hat Society. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother LL Carter Jr., and her husband Robert E. (Bobby) Jones, Sr.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Jim Gainer, Savannah; son and daughter-in-law, Henry Will and Leslie Jones Leesburg; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Traci Jones Moultrie; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kip McLeod and Brian Hartsock, Blacksburg, Va., Sam Gainer, Atlanta, Will Jones, Macon, Jessi Jones, Leesburg, Betsy Jones, Moultrie, Trey Jones, Lake Charles, La., Carter Jones, Leesburg, Britt Jones, Moultrie, Kristin McLeod, Columbus, Ga., Greyson McLeod, Lake Park, Rett McLeod, Lake Park; great-grandson, David Patrick, Atlanta; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 in the First Baptist Church in Lakeland, Ga. with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Music Funeral Services, 88 West Main Street in Lakeland, Ga.
