VALDOSTA —
Everett (E.B.) James, 89, of Lenox, Ga., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton after a lengthy illness. He was born on Aug. 3, 1923, in Nashville, Ga., to the late Arthur and Lillie Mae Jones James but lived most of his adult life in Cook County.
Mr. James Grew up in the Cottle Community and graduated from Berrien County High School before serving in WWII in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in the Pacific Rim in Australia and New Zealand. After returning home, he graduated from Perry Business School and began working in the banking industry. After moving to Cook County, he was a farmer for several years before opening up his own farm supply store, Adel Feed and Seed, in 1954. He served in the position of active chairman of the Board of Directors of Farmers and Merchants Bank while continuing to own and manage his farm supply store. In 1975, he ran for, and was elected, Clerk of Superior Court of Cook County and continued in that position until he retired at age 69. During these years, he also raised cows and enjoyed feeding his family and friends from his bountiful vegetable garden. He was a crop insurance agent and tax return preparer for his farmer customers in the community. He also served as a Director of Farm Bureau Insurance, President of the Lions Club, member of the Cook County Board of Education and Cook County Chamber of Commerce, was an Honorary Member of the Young Farmers, and was also an active Gideon where he enjoyed giving out Bibles and speaking at churches, schools and prisons. He was a member and deacon of Pine Grove Church in West Berrien Community for many years before he became a member of Lenox Baptist Church in 1991, where he also served as a deacon and delivered Meals on Wheels. He always put God first, family second, friends next and always worked as to the Lord. He was a man of God who raised his family by example and enjoyed worshipping God, serving God, his church and others.
Mr. James is survived by his wife of 65 and a half years, Repsie Rose Godwin James; his children, Earl (Kynette) James of Fitzgerald, Gary (Pat) James of Adel, Donna (Roger) Walker of Tifton, Lesa (Stephen) Deen of Adel, and Janet Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; also his grandchildren, Jabin (Beth) James, Lori (John) Hancock, Deron (Laura) James, Dona (Bob) Lord, Becky (Jody) Futch, Michael (Charleen) James, Joanna (Josh) Bryan, Heather (Kirk) Wilson, Blake (Aleshia) Branch, Brian Branch, Stephanie Deen, and Ashlee Davis; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ruth (Billy) Medley and Mazella Bennett of Nashville, Ga.; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carrie Lou and James Hancock of Barney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Roy James of Nashville, Ga.
The James family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel.
The funeral service will take place Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Lenox Baptist Church with the Rev. Shane Ashley, the Rev. Gary James and Elder Jabin James officiating.
