Essie Mae (Manning) Hall 103, of Valdosta, Ga. passed this life Aug. 14, 2012 at Holly Hill Nursing Home. She was born June 17, 1909 in Quitman, Ga. to the late Elsie and Robert (Bob) Manning and was married to the late Arthur Hall.
She was a faithful member of the Morning Star Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Ever Ready Club for over 30 years. Mrs. Hall was the Owner-Operator of Hall & Gibbs Lunchroom and most Valdosta residence knew her as the “Good Old Hamburger Lady” and the building still stand in the same location.
She is survived by her two daughters, Hazel Gibbs of Valdosta and Annie Ruth Hall Knight of Savannah; grandchildren, Derek Knight (Cathy), Savannah, Duwayne Gibbs,, Ocala, Fla., Diane Irvin (Darryl), Stone Mountain, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Chymeka Gibbs and Tiffany Stoney, Atlanta; Christopher and Jaida Irvin of Stone Mountain, Ga.; five special friends, Elmira West, Deloris Addison, Eva Rucker, Doris Parker and Edward Parker; nieces, nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Special thanks to Morning Star Baptist Church Culinary Ministry and Church family, South Georgia Medical Center staff, UHS Pruitt Corporation, Holly Hill Nursing staff, Cura Care Home Health Care, Dr. Larry Smith and his staff, Mids Transport Service.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at Morning Star Baptist Church. Pastor William C. Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home
