Richard Harlon Garrett, 81, of Lakeland passed away Saturday morning Nov. 24, 2012 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born May 21, 1931 to the late Henry Harlon and Ollie Elizabeth Smith Garrett in Carrolton, Ky. He moved to Lanier County in 1996 from Florida. He was a truck driver, a life member of NRA, and a member of Law Enforcement Alliance of America. He was Baptist by faith, a member of the English Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Laverne Garrett, and a brother Orville Garrett.
Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law – Lisa and Alex Doyle – Lakeland, Darlene and Charlie O’Steen – Lakeland, son – Ricky Garrett – Lakeland, sisters – Dorothy Ford – Carrolton, Ky., June Southerland – Carrolton, Ky., Hazel Fox – Bedford, Ky., brothers – Ross Garrett – Mulberry, Fla. Russell Garrett – Carrolton, Ky., Raymond Garrett – Carrolton, Ky., seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday Nov. 26, 2012 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. In keeping with his request cremation will follow. There will be no formal funeral service.
