Velma LaFaye (Faye) Phillips

-- — Velma LaFaye (Faye) Phillips, 81, of Valdosta, died on Monday, November 26, 2012. Born in Valdosta to the late Emory Bennett Speer & Mamie Lou Coody Speer, she had lived for most of her life in this area. Mrs. Phillips began her career as a cosmetologist, but went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from South Georgia Medical Center after many years of faithful service in the early 90?s. Mrs. Phillips had a special love for quilting. She had a skilled eye at matching colors and patterns that would make beautiful heirloom quilts that she would give to family and friends. Mrs. Phillips was very capable in so many areas; she loved fishing with family members and was a member of Redland Baptist Church.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by a daughter and son in law, Ann & Tommy Bussey of Valdosta, a son in law, Harry Wheeler, of Valdosta, two grandsons, Blair Bussey & Aaron Wheeler, both of Valdosta; two sisters and brothers in law, Laverne & Pete Dandrea of Valdosta, and Betty & Newton Collins of Cherry Lake, FL; a brother in law, Fred Bass of Boston, GA and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Phillips, Jr., a daughter, Janice Phillips Wheeler, a son Larry Clarence Phillips, a grandson, Joseph Benjamin Wheeler, two sisters, Virginia Speer Johnson and Imogene Speer Bass, and a brother Dewayne Speer.

Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Redland Baptist Church. Her son in law, Rev. Tommy Bussey will officiate, with Rev. Jay Watkins. Burial will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Redland Baptist Church, 4888 Rocky Ford Road, Valdosta GA, 31601.
