VALDOSTA —
William John Melligan, Jr., 74, of Lakeland passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2012 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 21, 1938 to the late William John, Sr. and Esther Florence Kissinger Melligan in Ridley Park, Penn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He was a retired firefighter with the United States Air Force, serving 20 years. He then worked with the Valdosta Fire Department for several years before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marion Collins Melligan of Lakeland, Ga.; sons and daughter-in-law William John (Johnny) Melligan III of Lakeland, Ga. and Russell Mark and Tammy Melligan of Ashburn, Ga.; grandson Cody Melligan of Hahira, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2011 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial of the remains at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland, Ga. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
