Lanice Jones Sr.

--- — Mr. Lanice Jones Sr., age 75, of Hahira, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Mr. Lanice Jones Sr. was born on Dec. 6, 1936. He was the third of five children born to the late Mr. Ed and Kathreen Jones. As a child, Lanice attended Franklinville Elementary and Hahira High schools. In 1955, Lanice attended Savannah State College. In April of 1961, he married the love of his life, the late Donnie Mae Jones. To this union, four children were born.

He spent his life serving the Lord and providing for his family. He worked for Griffin Corporation of Valdosta for more than 32 years, and retired to enjoy the fruits of his labor with his wife at their home in Hahira. He enjoyed visiting friends and family, farming, harvesting his garden and being outside. He was a faithful member of Thomas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for more then 30 years. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many of those years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Donnie Mae Jones, his brother, Melvin “J.D.” Jones, and his son, Ronald Roberson. He leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Rev. Eddie Lee Jones (Consello) of Hahira and Charles Glascoe of Woodbridge, Va.; two sisters, Arvella Brown of Savannah, and Laverne Howell of Valdosta; three sons, Lanice Jones Jr. (Janice) of Stockbridge, Cedric Jones of Orlando, Fla., and Marquez Jones (Melissa) of Acworth, Ga.; two daughters, Katherine Hodges of Miami, Fla., and Chenoa Kimbrough (Lamar) of Ray City; brothers-in-law, Elder Cornelius Demps Jr. of Macon, Sylvester Demps of Bronx N.Y., Calvin Demps ( Saundra), Valdosta; sisters-in-law, Mavis Demps, Ruby Demps, Berneatha Demps, Mae Ester Garland, all of Valdosta, and Gladys Jones of Hahira; grandchildren, Rhonda, Tim, Enrica, Carl, Joshua, Cedric Jr., Shanice, Lanice “Trent”, Miles, GaQuan, Trevion, Franklin :”Malik”, and Damari; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Tim Jr. He also  leaves a close friend, Naomi Pierce of Hahira, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at River Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Troupe, pastor and the Rev. Edgar Roberts, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends this evening at Thomas Chapel Baptist Church from 6-7:30 p.m. — Scott and Roberts Mortuary
