Larry Lee Bloom

VALDOSTA — Mr. Larry Lee Bloom, 61, of Middletown, beloved husband of Carol Shimoda-Bloom, peacefully departed this life on Friday, July 27th in New Britain. Born on May 29, 1951 in Barney, GA, he was the son of Eli Bloom of GA and the late Mildred "Lil Ma" (Godfrey) Bloom.

Larry served in the US Air-Force as an Airman 1st Class and was honorably discharged. He lived in Middletown for the past 21 years. He was a member of Cross St. A.M.E. Zion Church and also an active member of the Harry Ruffin Jr. American Legion Post #206. He worked as a painter for many years, loved watching Boston Celtics Basketball Games and going to church with his loving family. He also spent time gardening and was the self proclaimed "Neighborhood Mayor", by keeping up with all the news and events of the area. Larry loved helping people and was a willing worker with a generous nature. We will all miss him dearly.

Besides his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Corey [Michelle] Countess of Ft. Washington, MD and Larry [Tracy] Bloom Jr. of Triangle, VA; three daughters, Tasha Kiser of Adele, GA, Tajuana Jackson of Valdosta, GA and Crystal Bloom of District Heights, MD; three step-daughters, Mutima (Mima), Christie (June) and Sanji (The Boss) Shimoda, all of Middletown; eleven grandchildren; one great grandson and siblings, Emory Floyd of Miami, FL, Lomax Jenkins of Morven, GA, Roy Bloom of Barney, GA, Linda (Henry) Washington of Quitman, GA, Brenda (Arthur) Mallard, Laurel, MD, Bessie (Elisha) Pittman of Hahira, GA, Joan Bloom and Alma Ponder both of Athens, GA and a host of other relatives extended family and friends.

Along with his mother, he was predeceased by six siblings, Phyliss Little, Carolyn Williams, Edward Bloom, Coretta Rogers, Tracey Bloom and John Wesley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4th at 9:30am at Cross St. A.M.E. Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown. Interment will follow in State Veterans Cemetery.
