Mamie Brown Carter, 84, of Lake Park, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Aug., 7, 2012, at her home.
She was born June 29, 1928, in Bartow, a daughter of the late Rev. S.J. Brown and the late Anna Ruth Cantey Brown. For 30 years, Mrs. Carter taught school, primarily teaching first grade at Lake Park Elementary School.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Lake Park United Methodist Church, and enjoyed being with the Pathfinders and United Methodist Women. She was a dedicated wife and mother, enjoyed cooking, line dancing, being active and traveling. She was very talented at egg designing and decorating.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, J.C. “Sprig” Carter of Lake Park; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Carter, MD, and Pamela Carter, MD, of Lake Park; a sister-in-law, Jessie Martin of Lake Park; many relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral service for Mrs. Carter will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Lake Park United Methodist Church with Dr. Keith Sandlin officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, Lake Park.
