Virginia S. ‘Jinny’ Ellison

VALDOSTA — Virginia S. “Jinny” Ellison, 100, died on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Fellowship Home following a period of declining health. She was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Dec. 19, 1911, to the late Franklyn Hiram and Sophie Marie Schutte Sanborn. She retired after 23 years of service as a stock control clerk in civil engineering at Moody Air Force Base in 1977. She was also a pink lady volunteer for South Georgia Medical Center, a bowling enthusiast, a staunch Florida Gator fan, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was also active in her church, First Presbyterian, where she was a choir member from 1951 until recent years.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Grady Folsom of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Sandy and Brenda Ellison of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren and their spouses, James Rusell Lineberger Jr. of Jacksonville, Ark., Jennifer Suzanne and David Belancsik of Johnson City, N.Y., Julie Anne and Greg Protheroe of Chapin, S.C., Lon and Maureen Busby, Ann and Dan Priscott, and Christy and Travis Waldrop all of Gainesville, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Ellison Jr.

Services for Virginia “Jinny” Ellison will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Long officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Break Bread Together or the Music Department at First Presbyterian Church.
