VALDOSTA —
Dr. David J. Hedgepeth, 58, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born Sept. 24, 1953, in Lumberton, N.C., a son of the late Joseph Earl and Flora Belle Beard Hedgepeth. Dr. Hedgepeth was a professor in the Department of Early Childhood & Special Education at VSU, and was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his loving companion, Rebecca Brinkley of Tifton; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Hedgepeth of Atlanta; three brothers and one sister, Wade Dawson Hedgepeth and wife Sandra, Dr. Charles Dwight Hedgepeth, Flora Jane Davis and husband Robert, and Marcus Anthony Hedgepeth and wife Kathy, all of St. Pauls, N.C.; and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hedgepeth.
A celebration of Dr. Hedgepeth’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Church with The Very Rev. Denise Ronn and The Rev. Nancy Sartin officiating. Interment will take place in Bladen Union Baptist Church Cemetery, St. Pauls, N.C. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
