VALDOSTA —
Fernandez Burgess age 51, passed this life Jan. 27, 2012 in Miami Fla. He was born March 6, 1960 to the late James Burgess and the late Cammie Mae Bellinger Hurst in Miami Fla. He graduated high school from South Miami Senoir High school in 1979. He graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Ga. in 1983 and was innducted into that school's Football Hall of Fame in 1998. He played professional football in the NFL for the St. Louis Cardinals, NY Jets and the Miami Dolphins.
He leaves to lament his homegoing his wife, Vanessa Williams Burgess; children, Farrah, Decatur, Janelle, Fernanza, both of Tallahassee Fla., Jarrett, Phoenix Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Christian, Lillian, Amari, Amina, Cadance, Taryn, Jaidyn, Cassius, Malina; five brothers, Samuel Bellinger, Larry Johnson, Lonzie Burgess (LaTonya), Leviticus Johnson, all of Miami Fla.; three sisters, Yverne Jones, Cindalisa Burgess, Michelle Jackson, all of Miami Fla.; mother in-law, Mae L. Williams, Valdosta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary W. Grant (Bruce), Atlanta, Dorothy King (Charles), Valdosta, Monroe Williams Jr. (Pastor Felicia), Valdosta, Beverly Davis, Clarkston, Ga.; three aunts; three uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at 12 Noon at Union Cathedral. Bishop Wade S. McCrae is the pastor and Pastor Louis Ferguson will oficiate. Burial will follow in the Bethel A.M.E. church cemetery in Bellville Fla. The family will receive friends at 907 Bunche Drive in Valdosta. — McCrae & Godfrey Mortuary, Valdosta.
