Emmett Lamar Cook

-- — Emmett Lamar Cook, 72, of Valdosta died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at the Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 13, 1940 in Colquitt County to the late Carl Cook and Florence Bryant Cook and was a longtime resident of Valdosta. Mr. Cook was a retired Batallion Chief with the Valdosta Fire Department after thirty seven and a half years of service. He was a member of New Covenant Church and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Cook loved spending time with his family and was a faithful friend to many people. He enjoyed his work as a firefighter, working in his yard and was a great griller. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Anne McDonald Cook of Valdosta, much loved and devoted father of four daughters, Penny Cook of Birmingham, Ala., Renee and John Elbert Driver, Jr., Kimberly Wynne, Stephanie Cook Osheim and Ret. MSGT. Joseph L. Osheim all of Valdosta, his grandchildren, Kelly (Phillip) Godwin, John Elbert Driver, III, Daniel Wynne, Jr., Rebecca (Joseph) Marzella, Andrew Scott Driver, Robert Harrison,  Savannah Nicole Osheim, Meganne Glaire Osheim, Stephanie Marie Osheim, brothers and sisters in law, Shelley and Doris Cook of Moultrie, Glenn and Jean Cook of Adel, Bobby Cook of Berlin, brothers in law and sisters in law, Burton and Nancy McDonald of Orlando, Fla., Carole and Lonnie Isaacs of Athens, Tenn., Gerald and Debbie McDonald of Midway, Richard and Kathy McDonald of Bulloch County, Kenny McDonald of Valdosta, David and Sandy McDonald of Tucson, Ariz., numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at the New Covenant Church with Pastor Randy Stephen officiating. Burial with full firefighter honors will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
