Anna Brooks Brown Nelson

VALDOSTA — Anna Brooks Brown Nelson, 86, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman following a lengthy illness. Born in Paducah, Ky., on Dec. 1, 1925, Anna was the daughter of the late William Clyde and Margie Floy Edwards Brown. She grew up in Paducah, graduated from Tillman High School and attended David Lipscomb University. She worked for a number of years as a secretary for several businesses in Paducah and later served as church secretary at New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In 1950, Anna met and married Robert Nelson. They retired to Trenton, Ga., and then to Dasher in 1999. Mrs. Nelson loved to sing, especially at church and at gatherings. She loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends and she especially enjoyed the time she spent growing and tending her flowers.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Robert L. Nelson; daughter, Lois N. Cox; son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Sheryl Nelson, all of Dasher; daughter and son-in-law, Robbie J. and Danny DeRamus of Searcy, Ark., son, John R. Nelson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; grandchildren, Anne Marie (Brian) Bohlman of Beaufort, S.C., Erin M. Cox of San Francisco, Calif., Zachary L. Nelson of Atlanta, Cale D. Nelson, Chaeli E. Nelson, Benjamin E. Nelson, all of Dasher, Rebecca J. DeRamus of Searcy, Ark., Kimberly C. DeRamus of Sherwood, Ark., Jason R. DeRamus of Searcy, Ark., Jacob Nelson of Flagstaff, Ariz., Arianna Nelson of Honolulu, Hawaii, Moses Nelson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas E. Sr. and Arlene Brown of Henderson, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty B. and David Moore of Paducah, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Dasher Church of Christ. Philip Guthrie, Shane Copeland and Charles White will officiate. Burial will follow in Dasher Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
