Funeral service for Osvaldo Pistelli, 78, of Thomasville, Ga., will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with The Rev. Judith Ann Jones officiating. Osvaldo, affectionately known as “Dad,” to much of Thomasville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
Osvaldo was born in Mt. San Vito, Italy on March 29, 1934, to Vito and Ottavia Pistelli, the baby of six children. He grew up in Falconara where he met and married the love of his life, Tita Pistelli, who preceded him in death. He was a construction worker there until 1973, when he decided that the United States of America would provide a better future for his family, which by then included his two small boys, Massimo and Danilo. They immigrated to Tallahassee, Fla., where he worked with family in Mom and Dad’s Restaurant.
In 1977, while driving through Thomasville, he found a small building and decided to open his own Mom & Dad’s, which has evolved into a Thomasville landmark. Family was the joy of the Pistelli family and Osvaldo and Tita were the heart. They enjoyed nothing more than traveling and visiting with their family — those born into the family as well as those loved into their family.
Mr. Pistelli is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Massimo and Cindy Pistelli of Valdosta and Danilo and Anna Pistelli of Thomasville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Giuseppe and Vito of Valdosta and Anthony and Daniella of Thomasville. Also surviving is Iole Baldoni of Falconara, Italy and numerous nephews and nieces all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 33, Thomasville, GA 31799 or your charity of choice.
