Mr. William Henry Wright Jr. “Shorty” was born on Jan. 28, 1941 to the late William Henry Wright, Sr. and Rebeckah (Roberts) Wright of Valdosta. He departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
He was the first of six children. He attended Lowndes County Public School and was employed by the Valdosta City School system in the maintenance department, retiring after 42 years of dedicated services. He also was a retired farmer but still enjoyed gardening and being on his tractor.
On Sept. 20, 1968, Shorty married his best friend Pearlie (Pearl) Anderson of Valdosta and later years he was blessed with one devoted son. He was known for his kindness in giving and fullness of laughter, he never met a stranger.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 44 years, Pearl Wright of Valdosta; one devoted son, William Jonathan Wright (Laliter) of Valdosta; one brother, Gene (Billy) Wright; four sisters, Mildred Akins, Carolyn King (Lonnie), Jennette Garland (Odis) and Janice Roberts (Rev. Lester); two special grandchildren, Justice and Alysia; three brothers-in-law, Alfred Anderson (Ann) of Morven, James Pierce (Janie) of Dunedin, Fla. and Joseph Padilla (Anselma) of Lansing, Mich.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friends and phone buddies, Henry Hayes, Bobby, Jack and Dale, all of Valdosta.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at Morningstar Baptist Church. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake Park. — Scott And Roberts Mortuary.
