Wilma Whitley Bennett Cowart

VALDOSTA — Wilma Whitley Bennett Cowart, 77, of Gordonsville, Va., and formerly of Valdosta, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at The Laurels of Charlottesville in Charlottesville, Va., following several years of declining health. She was born on Dec. 2, 1934, in Waycross, Ga., to the late Jesse and Lillie Harris Whitley. She was self-employed in the child care industry and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Teresa Mann of Havelock, N.C.; a daughter, Rebecca Wolf of Gordonsville, Va.; granddaughters, Brittany and Jacob Richardson and Marra Wolf of Gordonsville, Va.; grandsons, Timothy and Travis Mann of Havelock, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Leo, Lucan, and Chloe Richardson of Gordonsville, Va.; a stepson, Dale Cowart of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Pat Kelly of Thomasville, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion Halstead of East Liverpool, Ohio, Roberta and Cyle Brunson and Phyllis and James Shaw, all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Franklin Bennett and Jairus L. Cowart.

Service for Wilma Whitley Bennett Cowart will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
