Israel Lane Byrd, 92, of Barney, Ga., went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 9, 2013. He was born in Barney on November 13, 1920 to the late Charlie and Janie Folsom Byrd and was a member of the Morven Church of Christ. Mr. Byrd retired from Alaga Whitfield Industries in Montgomery, Alabama and spent the last years of his life working with arts and crafts.
Survivors include his sons, Phil Byrd of Montgomery, Alabama, Jerry Byrd of Freeport, Florida, daughter and son in law, Lynn Byrd Peterson and Brian Peterson of Cecil, Alabama, three grandchildren, Kristi Byrd Patterson, Kelli Byrd, Kari Byrd Patterson, six great grandchildren, sisters in law and brothers in law, Dot and Mack Stewart of Valdosta, Georgia, Betty Sue and Darrell Williamson of Bainbridge, Georgia and a special friend, Sara Ann Jones of Barney, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harrelson Byrd, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Jerry Herring officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Campground Cemetery outside of Morven, Georgia on Highway 76. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 2-3pm at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home, 401 S. Church St., Hahira, Ga., 31632.
