VALDOSTA —
Ira Eugene Fender, 77, of DuPont, Ga., passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2012, at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born March 5, 1935, in Clinch County, Ga., to the late Marvin and Martha Janie Sirmans Fender. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Ira Darrell Fender and Ronnie Eugene Fender; his grandson, Josh Browning; son-in-law, Odis Sherrod; and his brother-in-law, Darrell Royals. Before returning to Clinch County to work with Brockway and Lee Engineering prior to retiring, he was employed as a fireman for 16 years in Albany, Ga. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, teaching his children and grandchildren. He attended Lang Memorial Church in Clinch County.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Fender of DuPont, Ga.; daughter and her fiancé, Elaine Sherrod and Dean Smith, Thomasville; sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Don Nessmith, Brooklet, Ga.; sister, Nell Royals Lakeland, Ga.; brother and sisters-in-law, Edward and Wilma Fender, Vidalia, Ga., Ivy and Alverna Fender, Albany, Ga., W.C. and Wenda Fender, Homerville, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Gwen Fender, Lakeland, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda Ray, Ron Fender, Dennis Rowland, Phil Becton, Tammy Becton; great-grandchildren, Macy Ray, Marlee Fender, Mary Hannah Burch, Andrew Roland, Jacob Roland, Aaron Becton, and Ashley Becton.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., today, Oct. 11, 2012, in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in North Cemetery in Clinch County. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com. — Music Funeral Services will be serving the family.
