William Lewis Holder

-- — Dr. William Lewis Holder, 85, died on Aug. 10, 2012. He was a retired child psychiatrist who moved to Cocoa, Fla. in 1988. He was a native of Valdosta, Ga. and a graduate of Emory University, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, interned at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami and residencies at Lafayette Clinic, Hawthorn Center, and the University of Michigan Hospital. His career in Maryland included consultant in school mental health to the Montgomery County Schools, Director of Child Mental Health for the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Director of the residential treatment center for children and the adolescents in Cheltenham, Health Officer and Deputy State Health Officer for Montgomery County MD, and served on the part-time faculty of his alma mater, the University of Maryland Medical School. He was a life member of the American Medical Association, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a retired member of the Brevard County Medical Society. He served in the Philippines in WWII.

Dr. Holder is survived by his wife, Ann, two daughters, Allison Holder of Tucson, Ariz. and Melissa Holder of Melbourne, Fla., three grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at 2 p.m., graveside at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. John McGowan will officiate.
