VALDOSTA —
Ruby Lee Taylor began her journey on July 16, 1943 in Berrien County, Ray City, Ga. She was the first born child to Henry Lee Taylor and Katherine Williams Taylor. At a young age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Valdosta. She received her education in the Lowndes County and Valdosta City Schools. in 1961, she graduated from Pinevale High School.
On March 20, 1961, she married John Wesley Hezekiah. Four children were born to this union. She was employed as a laborer at ITT Metal Products Division in Valdosta for 21 years. Later, she was employed with the Lowndes County School System as a paraprofessional Sept. 1988 until her retirement in May 2006.
After marriage, she joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Valdosta where she served faithfully until death. She was a faithful worker on the Deaconess Ministry, Mission Ministry, Senior Choir, and served as a Sunday school teacher many years ago and was the secretary for the Sunday school.
She is survived by a loving and devoted husband of 51 years, John Wesley Hezekiah; two devoted daughters, Stephanie and Shanika Hezekiah, Valdosta; two sons, Thurston Hezekiah, Jonesboro, Kenneth Hezekiah, Valdosta; one brother, Undra (Tammy) Taylor, Sr., Villa Rica; three grandsons, Jamieson Hezekiah, Bainbridge, Casey Taylor, Stone Mountain, Nicholas Hezekiah, Valdosta; two granddaughters, YaMaya Crawford, Jonesboro, Daquanda Robinson, Valdosta; two sisters-in-law, Montez Daniels, Peggy Seward, Valdosta; two brothers-in-law, H.B. (Mabel) Hezekiah, Valdosta, Charles (Peggy) Hezekiah, Columbus; two daughters-in-law, Teresa Hezekiah, Stone Mountain, Emma Cheeks, Jonesboro; three uncles, Joseph (Mattie) Taylor, Hawkinsville, William Taylor, Orlando, Fla., Edward (Ruby) Taylor, Lake Wales, Fla.; three aunts, Daisy Lester, Orlando, Fla., Anna Mitchell, Orlando, Fla., Calreatha Taylor, Hawkinsville, Mary Williams, Valdosta; special friends, Earlean Foster and family, Barbara Werts and family, Marion Duckworth and family, Gail Gaines and family, Shunder Smith and family, Valdosta, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church family; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee and Katherine Taylor, maternal grandparents Dave Williams and Susie Burgman Williams, and paternal grandparents William Taylor and Willie Lue Johnson Taylor. Special thanks to Dr. Leon Smith and the Valdosta Family Medicine Group and Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church located at 505 E. Force St. in Valdosta. The Rev. David Adams will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Harrington Funeral Home
