Julia Frances McIntyre Dees

VALDOSTA — Julia Frances McIntyre Dees, 85, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at the Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta on Nov. 5, 1926, to the late Archie and Julia Norton McIntyre. She graduated from Madison County High School and went on to receive her degree in education from the Georgia State Woman’s College (now VSU). She retired after 33 years of faithful service as an educator to both the Valdosta City and Lowndes County School Systems. In her youth, she enjoyed music and dancing. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and was very active in all aspects of the church. She sang in the choir and taught English as a Second Language Class through the Hispanic ministry at First Baptist. She loved her family and was devoted to caring for them as well as others.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, James Mattison (Matt) and Christine E. Dees of Gray, Jerry Dees and Terry Dees, both of Valdosta, James E. (Jed) and Ginger Holcomb Dees of Savannah; grandchildren and spouses, Cliff Dees of Gray, Heather and Jason Montgomery of Valdosta, Sean and Casi Dees, Kristi Dees, all of Savannah, Trevor Dees of Valdosta, Tyler and Melinda Dees of Fayettville, N.C., Josh Bennett of Savannah, Brittany and Kyle Ray of Valdosta and Gregory Gay, also of Valdosta; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Ed Dees; her sisters, Eleanor Davis, Hattie Lou Moore, and Margaret Culbreth; and brother, John McIntyre.

Funeral service for Mrs. Dees will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Phil West and the Rev. Mac Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow in Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
