Billie Fielding Sandlin

-- — Billie Fielding Sandlin, who throughout her life cherished her relationship with God, went to be with Him forever on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. She was 73. Born in Valdosta at Little Griffin Hospital on August 8 1938, to William Starling Fielding and Dorothy Tomlinson Fielding, Mrs. Sandlin grew up in the heart of Georgia’s timber industry, forever relishing her childhood memories on a family farm near Hunter’s Creek. In 1957, she married Virgil Levon Sandlin, whom she loved immensely, even beyond his death in 2006. Together, they had five children who attribute their faith and reliance on God to their mother’s example.

Mrs. Sandlin was a member of New Covenant Church and retired from South Georgia Medical Center where she worked as a telephone operator. Mrs. Sandlin had a voice she used to praise her Lord, traveling around the South as a member of The Sounds of Gospel.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law: Sherry and Paul Zipperer of Valdosta and Suzanne and Frank Roberts of Valdosta; three sons, Larry Sandlin of Valdosta, Garry Sandlin of Valdosta and Brian Sandlin of Hahira, her grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Sandlin is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Mark Turner, and three brothers and sisters-in law, Ethridge and Doris Fielding of Waycross, Jim and Sandra Fielding of Hahira, George and Kay Fielding of Lake Park; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sandlin is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and William Fielding; her husband, Virgil Levon Sandlin; and a niece she loved as a grandchild, Melanie Leigh Fielding.

A celebration of Mrs. Sandlin’s earthly life will be Saturday, July 21, 2012, in a service scheduled for 11 a.m. at New Covenant Church.  Pastor Randy Stephen and Pastor Zakk Cumbess will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.  Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. —   Carson McLane Funeral Home
