Hoyt Lumpkin Jr. (MSGT. Ret.)

VALDOSTA — Hoyt Lumpkin Jr., (MSGT. Ret.) 45, of Hahira, died on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Fayetteville, N.C., on Feb. 10, 1967. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Hoyt earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Thomas Edison State College and was working on his Master’s degree from Capella University. Hoyt loved nothing more than playing ball and riding bikes with his sons. He enjoyed staying involved in every activity while serving in the Air Force and was involved in his community. Hoyt was a faithful, loving and devoted husband to his wife, Sandy, and father to his boys, as well as a loyal friend and neighbor to many.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Sandy Lumpkin of Hahira; two sons, Jacob and Zachary Lumpkin of Hahira; his father, Hoyt Lumpkin Sr. of Cuthbert; mother and step-father, Emily and Don Riley of Mary Esther, Fla.; sister, Maureen Smith of Blakely; parents-in-law, Michael and Lori Cooke of Brackney, Pa.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marsha Cooke and Keith Sturek of Johnson City, N.Y.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Jewel Cooke of Vestal, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for Hoyt Lumpkin Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. The burial will be in East View Cemetery in Cuthbert, Ga., at 2 p.m. Friday.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the memorial college fund established for his sons.
