Wallace (Wally) DeWitt Dennis Jr.

VALDOSTA — Wallace (Wally) DeWitt Dennis Jr., 59, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Smith Northview Hospital.

Wally was born Oct. 14, 1953, in Valdosta and graduated from Valdosta High School with the Class of 1971. He was of the Church of God faith.

For over 40 years, Wally owned and operated Winnersville Roofing and Wally Dennis Home Improvements. He loved, cared and provided for his family, friends and employees.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening and farming.   

In his younger days, you could see him on the racetrack in his favorite go-cart, No. 14. Wally was an avid sports fan, especially football, baseball, softball and NASCAR. His favorites were the Valdosta Wildcats and Jeff Gordon of NASCAR. He was a member of the Valdosta Touchdown Club, and for several years he coached All-Star Softball teams. On many days, he could be found at the grill at Wally’s Smokehouse.  

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie Dennis of Valdosta; three daughters, Laura Garrett and husband Bill of Valdosta, DeDe Dennis of Valdosta, and Amy Lott and husband Ting of Hahira; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Rose Dennis) Rumph of Valdosta, Will Garrett of Valdosta, Abby Lott of Hahira, Autumn Garrett of Valdosta, and Daniel Lott of Hahira; his mother, Chris Dennis of Valdosta; three sisters, Pat Carpenter and husband Kim of Valdosta, Pam Hughes of Savannah, and Paula Browning and husband Jim of Ray City; a half brother, Billy Dennis and wife Denise of Mechanicsburg, PA; special friend, Kanawha Braswell-Phillips of Valdosta; sister-in-law, Priscilla Horne and husband Jake of Valdosta; seven nieces and nephews, Kim McCann, Bo Carpenter, Emily Rose, Alex Carpenter, Pamela Taylor, Erika Reister, and Bryan Paul Walker; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace DeWitt Dennis Sr.

Funeral service for Wally will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Brother Benny Daniels and Brother Raymond Gabbard officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
