Vanessa Gale Brunston

VALDOSTA — Vanessa Gale Brunston, 57, of Hahira, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Louis Smith Memorial Hospital in Lakeland after being in declining health for several months. Vanessa was born in Miami, Fla., and moved to Hahira with her parents, Elmer “Red” Brunston and Edith W. Brunston when they retired in 1972. She received her Associate’s degree from the then Valdosta State College and after recovering from a serious illness, was employed by Dr. Francis Coleman and served as his office manager for 11 years. She joined the staff at Valdosta State University as a secretary for the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders and later for the Dean of the College of Education until her health disintegrated last year. She was in love with her Lord, family and church, New Covenant Church of Valdosta.

Vanessa is survived by her mother, Edith Brunston; brother, Rick L. Brunston and his wife, Sherry; her twin sister, Valerie A. Bayman and her husband, Jack, all of Hahira; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, “Red” Brunston; and her brother, Robert A. “Bob” Brunston and his wife, Sarah.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at 1 p.m. at New Covenant Church with Pastor Glenn Hatcher and Pastor Randy Stephen. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to your favorite charity.
