Sister Mozella Jenkins Mitchell was born on Sept. 22, 1922 in Sanford, Fla. to Louise Emanuel and Thomas Jenkins, Sr. She was the oldest sibling of three sisters and one brother. She was married to the late Frank Melvin Mitchell and the mother of two children, Evelyn and Alvin.
Sister Mitchell resided in Valdosta for most of her life. She was a member of the Dasher High School graduating class of 1940. She gave her life to Christ and joined the Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She really appreciated her God and her church.
During her life, she was employed with the Valdosta School System as a substitute teacher as well as in the distribution division of the material center. She worked in the offices of a dentist and podiatrist in addition to the Lowndes County Voter’s Registration.
Sister Mitchell endeavored to make good use of her time. In her active years, she remained busy and never had idle moments. Known for her pleasant smile and quiet spirit, she cherished her many friendships. Her positive attitude and spirit preceded her. She adored her mother and enjoyed telling others about her. She enjoyed designing clothes, hats, and shoes. She was well known for her exceptional baking skills and specialized in delicious banana pudding and pound cakes. She prided herself in spelling complicated words and very rarely misspelled one.
She enjoyed being a mother and raising her two children. She prided herself in encouraging them to be their best and follow their dreams. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in September 2006 for medical care.
In the early evening of Jan. 23, 2012 at Hospice Atlanta in Buckhead, Sister Mitchell was called to eternal rest, passing 41 years to the day of her husband’s death in 1971.

She was also preceded in death by her relatives Mr. Dan Emanuel, Sr., Mrs. Gertrude Emanuel, Mrs. Gladys Flucas, Daniel (Danny Boy) Emanuel, Jr., Booker T.
