VALDOSTA —
Dr. Calvin Elijah King, 84, of Valdosta, Ga., departed this life on Sunday, July 15, 2012.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., on June 5, 1928. He was the first of three children born to the late David A. King and Florence B. Gary King. He was raised by his devoted stepmother, the late Barabra J. (Mother Barbara) King. Dr. King received his early education in Valdosta, having graduated from Dasher High School in 1945. He graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta in 1949 with a major in mathematics and a minor in education. He earned a master’s degree from Atlanta University in 1950 and his PhD. degree from Ohio State University in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army with the Counter-Intelligence Corps in Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Mother Barbara King, and one sister, Louise King Wright Carter.
He is survived by a devoted sister, Gwendolyn King Butler of Americus, Ga.; two nieces, Barbara (Dwight) Redwine and Davidae (Christopher) Walker of Douglasville, Ga.; five nephews, Freddie Wright Jr. of Augusta, Ga., Randolph Wiggins and Reginald Mahone of Americus, Ga., Craig (Krista) Wilson of Macon, Ga., and Calvin (Amanda) Carter of Thomasville, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Harrington Funeral Home Chapel, 713 Lake Park Road. — Harrington Funeral Home, Inc.
