George Anderson Cothron Sr.

VALDOSTA — George Anderson Cothron Sr., 89, of Temple Terrace, Fla., died peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Melech Hospice House in Temple Terrace, Fla. He was born on Feb. 17, 1923, in Valdosta to the late Madison (Matt) and Margaret Strickland Cothron. He entered military service at age 17 and served in the Military Police of the U.S. Army during WWII. Following his military service in 1947, Mr. Cothron relocated to Tampa, Fla., where he remained until his death. Mr. Cothron was employed by Armour Meat Company from 1948 until 1957. He was the owner and operator of Cothron’s Automotive from 1957, until his retirement. He was a beloved father, known for his devotion and unconditional love for his family. He was known by his friends for his love of life, fishing and sense of humor. He attended St. Chad’s Episcopal Church in Tampa for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Belinda Cothron; nine children, Andy Cothron, Larry Cothron, Steve Cothron, Gary Cothron, Sharon Cothron Daniel, Karen Cothron Diemert, Sandra Cothron Gummo, Beverly Cothron Valiente and Georgianna Cothron; his sister-in-law, Maxine Cothron of Valdosta; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Lee Cothron; seven siblings, Fred Cothron, Mattie Lou Prine, Grady Cothron, Nellie Mae Dasher, Jack Cothron, Margaret Peace, and Jim Cothron.

A graveside service for George Cothron Sr. will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, in Redland Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jamie Ford officiating.

Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the Cothron family locally.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Chad’s Episcopal Church, 5609 N. Albany Avenue, Tampa, FL 33603.
