Allen E. “Buddy” Gray Jr., 62, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at Lakehaven Nursing Home after an extended illness.
He was born February 24, 1950 in Valdosta, a son of the late Allen E. and Willie Mae Ritter Gray. After graduating from Echols County High School with the Class of 1968 Buddy began his thirty-eight year career with Norfolk-Southern Railroad, retiring due to his health, as Engineer. He was a member of Lake Park Church of God, he greatly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and on cruises. Buddy loved getting together with family and was very proud of his children’s accomplishments.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, USMC Sgt. Gray, Earon Allen and Amanda Lea Gray of Baton Rouge, LA; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Michelle Pollock and Stephen Michael Pollock of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Brayden and Jynna Pollock of Valdosta; one step-daughter, Christy Michelle Harrigan and husband Ryan of Lake Park; his loving companion, Sonia Wade of Valdosta; Sonia’s son, Brooks Wade and wife Niki of Valdosta; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Dariel Tomlinson of Lake Park; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Susan Gray, Terry and Dianne Gray, and DeVane and Mary Lou Ritter, all of Lake Park; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Gray will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Sardis Baptist Church, with Dr. Keith Sandlin, Rev. Mickey Corbett and Rev. Eldridge Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at the Gray Family Cemetery with Rev. Royce McCurdy officiating.
