Louise D. Harden

-- — Margaret Louise Duncan (Louise) Harden passed away suddenly in her home on June 15. She was born in Detroit Michigan to Dr. Ira J. and Mildred Jones Duncan. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Duncan Howard. She is survived by her son, Joseph Duncan Harden (Duncan) of Watkinsville, Ga., brothers William (Bill) Duncan of Oscoda, Mich., and Richard and Beverly Duncan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Other family members include two nieces and three nephews.

Louise attended public schools in Michigan and Atlanta and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After college, she lived for a short while in Nova Scotia before moving to Valdosta, Ga., where she worked in the technology field and was an active member of Park Avenue Methodist Church.

About six years ago, Louise relocated to Columbus, Ga., and became a Programmer Analyst at TSYS. In addition to her job, she volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and was a volunteer at the River Center. She was recognized by the Department of Treasury, IRS, for Outstanding Public Service as a volunteer at Good Will Southern Rivers – VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

As a faithful Christian and Godly woman, Louise immediately moved her church membership to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She was active member of Sunday School and sang in the choir, combining her love of music with her passion for ministry.

Louise will long be remembered for the joy and sunshine she exuded. Her positive presence will be missed by her immediate family, her cousins, and friends from work, church and community activities.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Methodist Church at 2:00 on Tuesday, June 19 with Reverend Scott Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends after the funeral . Vance Brooks Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and messages can be sent to the family at www.vancebrooksfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Louise’s honor be made to ministries at St. Marks United Methodist Church. — Vance Brooks Funeral Home.
