Virgil Pilkington Jr.

VALDOSTA — Virgil Pilkington Jr., 92, of Valdosta, went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. He was born in West Blocton, Ala., on July 14, 1920, to the late Virgil Sr. and Leila Elizabeth Champion Pilkington. Mr. Pilkington served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired civilian aviation metal smith with Moody Air Force Base and Cherry Point Marine Air Corp Station in North Carolina. Mr. Pilkington was an active member of the Northside Baptist Church until his health declined. He faithfully served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed spending time studying his Bible which brought him much joy. Mr. Pilkington loved the outdoors and taught his family to appreciate God’s beautiful world.

Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Pilkington Brazeal and Buddy Brazeal of Valdosta, Marcia Pilkington Wise and Randy Wise of McDonough, Ga.; grand-daughters and grandsons-in-law, Laura Brazeal Odell and David Odell of Valdosta, Meredith Brazeal Moon and Patrick Moon; great-grandchildren, Alaina Moon, Garrett Moon, Evan Odell and Annellisa Odell; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Ethel Martin Pilkington.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Willis and the Rev. Douglas M. Reddick officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602 or to Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah.
