Harry Otis Shivers

-- — Harry Otis Shivers, 62, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2. 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. Harry was born to to late Mr. Mose Thomas and Mrs. Sarah Copeland Shivers.

Harry was a graduate of Lowndes High School, class of 1971 and Valdosta Technical College School of Welding, as well as driving 18-Wheelers. He worked at South Georgia Medical Center Mental Health and Hahira Georgia Drug and Alcohol Center. He was a devoted servant to helping others. He was loyal servant of the Baptist faith.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife for 38 years, Mrs. Gloria Jean Tucker Shivers; three daughters, Wanda of Ft Lauderdale, Fla., Sharlene Davis and Naressia Owens (Trone), both of Valdosta; two sons, Afrie Johnson, Tampa, Fla., Harry Otis Shivers, Jr., Valdosta; a loving mother-in-law, Luneal Tucker; two god daughters, Aldrena Kitchens (Sylvester), N.C., and Alicia Mark (Sam), Valdosta; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Harry’s love for helping others even to just take them to the store leaves us to cherish his memories by his sisters and brothers, Carolyn Jones (Bernard), Mosetta Shivers (Thomas), Mary Shivers, Debra Holley, Georgia Ann Porter, Victoria Hill, Charlie James Copeland (Sonya) and Leroy Copeland (Patricia), Valdosta; two aunts, Mary Lou Copeland and Vernale Copeland; a special cousin, Rickey Copeland (Mary), Miami, Fla.; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Home going celebration for Mr. Harry Otis Shivers will be held Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the sanctuary of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The Rev. Brantley McCollough, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be held today from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Stevens Funeral Home of  Valdosta.
