Doris Stubblefield McClellan

VALDOSTA —

Doris Stubblefield McClellan, 77, of Lake Park, died on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, after a brief illness. Born in Blue Diamond/Hazard, Ky., on April 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Hazel Tyra Combs. She loved playing the piano and she used those skills both as enjoyment with family and friends but also as a ministry at church and within the community. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Park and for many years, Mrs. Stubblefield McClellan had been a member of Faith Baptist Church in Valdosta. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, affectionately known as “Granny” to her family and friends.  

Survivors are her husband, Rodney McClellan of Lake Park; daughter and son-in-law, Cherre Lynn and Richard Terry of Lake Park; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Brenda and Chris Ames of Alpharetta, Crystal Carter and Jessica Avila of Lake Park; five great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice Combs of Duluth, sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Don Elkins of Oregonia, Ohio; four nephews; stepdaughters and their husbands, Joy and Dexter Schunoff of Valdosta, Jerri and Steve Tickner of Marietta, stepson, Michael McClellan of Valdosta; five stepgrandchildren; son-in-law, Al Smith Jr., lifelong friend, Kilia McLeod of Lake Park; daughter-in-law, Kelly McClellan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Stubblefield; and a grandchild, Kasey McCranie.

A homecoming party will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Lake Park. Pastor Robert Dawson and the Rev. Gene Wisehart will officiate. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
