Edward Harlon Burnam

VALDOSTA — Edward Harlon Burnam, 94, of Jennings, Fla., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, following an extended illness. Mr. Burnam was born in Jennings, Fla., on Sept. 22, 1918, to the late John Sherman and Ella A. Burnam. He was raised on the farm with a large family of brothers and sisters and knew the meaning of hard work. Continuing the family tradition, Mr. Burnam made a living for his family farming and was well-respected in his community. He was a lifelong member of Burnham Christian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder throughout the years.  

Preceding him in death in 1984 was his first wife and mother of his children, Ethel Marie Dees Burnam; and several brother and sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Edward “Buddy” Burnam and wife Connie of Jennings, Fla., Lavon Burnam and wife Joy of Jacksonville, Fla., Larry Burnam and wife Kathy of Jennings, Fla., and Don Burnam and wife Beth of Jennings, Fla.; two daughters, Jean Jones and husband Bill of Jacksonville, Fla., and Earlene Carter and husband Glenn of Jennings, Fla.; two brothers, John Burnam “Buck,” Gainesville, Fla., and Farrell Burnam and wife Marilyn, Jasper, Fla; two sisters, Geneva Johns, Waycross, Ga., and Janie Herring and husband Jimmy, Jennings, Fla.; one sister-in-law Kitty Burnham, Jennings, Fla.;  14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mr. Burnam is his wife Willodean Deas Burnam of Jasper, Fla.; and his special friends and loving caregivers, Reatha, Tarika, Priscilla and Carol.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Burnham Christian Church near Jennings.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing and visitation for family and friends will be immediately preceding the service from 10-11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Burnham Christian Church Building Fund, 4520 NW CR 146, Jennings, FL 32053. — Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
