VALDOSTA —
Melvin Ray Golden, 71 of Lakeland, Ga. passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 in Louis Smith Memorial Hospital in Lakeland, Ga. He was born on Sept. 21, 1941 in Levy County, Fla. to the late Ivor L. and Ebbar (Belflower) Golden. He retired from owning and operating Mel’s Appliances and was of the Baptist faith. Along with his parents, Mr. Golden was preceded in death by his sister Irma King, and by two brothers, Edward Golden and Robert Golden.
His survivors include his Companion, Inez Hersey of Douglas; step children, Tippy Matlcock of Douglas; Melissa Matlock of Douglas; Johnny and Denise Hersey of Nichols, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Yvonne Golden of Lakeland; Jimmy and Annette Golden of Lakeland, Ga.; special friend, Martha Breeden of Cecil; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lakeland, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening, Jan. 18, 2013 in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
