VALDOSTA —
Dr. L.W. Williams, Jr. (Twyne) of Valdosta departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. Dr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. L.W. Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Ethel Davis Williams. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Valdosta. Dr. Williams graduated from Dasher High School in Valdosta, and continued his education at Morehouse College in Atlanta where he received dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry. He completed additional studies at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla. Dr. Williams continued his pursuit for higher education at Meharry Medical College and received his D.D.S. degree. Dr. Williams served as a member of the staff at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville during his internship. Dr. Williams practiced dentistry at 415 S. Ashley Street for more than 40 years. He was also owner of Reasonable Rentals Leasing Agency in Valdosta.
Throughout his life, he was an active member in the community serving in leadership roles in several professional and civic organizations. Some of the notable organizations included the National Dental Association, American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Society, Georgia Dental Association, Southwestern District Dental Society, Masonic, IPBOE of W, and NAACP. Among the many awards and achievements received, he was also awarded a Fellowship of the Academy of General Dentistry. He spent countless hours donating his dental services at Wiregrass Technical College and student mentoring. Dr. Williams was an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his brother, Etheridge (E.E.) Williams; his children, Donna Williams (Eldwin Boyd), Lafayette Williams III (Karen Johnson-Williams), Daryl Joseph (Natoyla Joseph), Christina Williams-Naylor (Cory Naylor), Joshua Gray, Lafayette Williams IV, and Katelyn Williams; his grandchildren, Wesley Williams, Sloan Williams, Nyla Joseph; nieces, Dakita Ludy, Nikkole Chisholm,; great-nieces, Niche’ and Ciera Ludy; cousins, Betty Miles, Henrietta Banks, Charles Banks; a devoted and longtime companion, Shirley Joseph; and a host of relatives and friends.
Dr. Williams was a person that loved life and took advantage of all it had to offer with zest. He enjoyed making other people happy and treasured the time spent with family an friends.
Family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. this evening, Jan. 18, 2013 at 624 River Street in Valdosta.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Dr. Willie J. Harris Jr. will officiate. Interment will be held in Concord Missionary Church in Lake Park, Ga. Public Viewing will be held one hour prior to funeral service. — Harrington Funeral Home
