Miss Mary Catherine Wilkes, 88, of Lake Park, passed away Feb. 15, 2013 at Cook Senior Living Center in Adel. She was born March 4, 1924 in Barney, to the late Etta Mae McCall Wilkes and John Arlie Wilkes. She was a store manager for Dixieland Stores for 28 years after which she moved to Lake Park and worked for TG & Y for 19 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church.
Miss Wilkes is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Allred of Culleoka, TN, Dorothy Sorrell of Columbus and Madge and Richard Lawrence of Adel, ; a brother, James Wilkes of Barney; and a sister-in-law, Edna Hayes Wilkes of Sylvester. Several nieces and nephews, as well as great- and great-great nieces and nephews also survive, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Etta Mae and John Arlie Wilkes; two brothers, John Rudolph Wilkes and Russell Nathaniel Wilkes; and a sister-in-law, Jean Johnson.
Funeral services for Miss Wilkes will take place Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Lake Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Anthony and Rev. Jay Sorrell officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch United Methodist Church in Cook County at 4 p.m. the same day. The family will receive friends the day of the service at Lake Park United Methodist Church from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lake Park United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, P.O.Box 130, Lake Park, GA. 31636.
