Charles “Charlie” Gray, Sr.

VALDOSTA — Charles “Charlie” Gray, Sr., 80 of Madison, Fla. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 in the Doctors Memorial Hospital in Perry, Fla. He was born Aug. 19, 1932 in Gilchrist County, Fla. to the late Curtis Cabot and Julia Idell (Owens) Gray. Mr. Gray enjoyed racing motorcycles and riding bicycles. He won a bicycle race from Waycross to Valdosta in 1951. Mr. Gray was very involved in youth sports in both Lowndes County, Ga. and Elkhart County, Indiana. He coached numerous sports some to include: T-ball, baseball and football. He was one of the first members of the Boys and Girls Club. Above everything else in Charlie’s life, he believed his greatest accomplishment was his boys and grandchildren. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by a brother, James Gray.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jimmie Gray of    Madison, Fla.; two sons, Charles Gray, Madison, Fla., Greg Gray, Madison, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ericka Gray, Tyler Gray and Skyler Gray; sister, Myrtis Gray Love, Valdosta; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with a private burial in Carter Cemetery to follow at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until Service time on Saturday Morning.
