Sue Louise Hartsell Fryslie, 82, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at her residence of natural causes. She was born in Tama, Iowa on June 6, 1930 to the late Paul Kenneth and Esther Lillian Carl Hartsell. Sue lived in Valdosta since 1969 until her retirement from Valdosta Technical College in 1996. She then moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida near her youngest daughter, Susan. In 2005, she returned to Valdosta where she resumed working part time at Valdosta Technical College.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1948 and went on to study nursing at the University of Iowa graduating with a diploma in nursing in 1951. In 1974, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia and in 1979, obtained a Master of Education from Georgia State University.
Before beginning her teaching career in 1984, she was employed as a Registered Nurse in various hospitals in Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and Georgia.
She was a devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and a contributing member of the Valdosta Symphony.
Her other interests included a weekly knitting group at her home that was affectionately called the ‘Nutty Knitters’. She loved entertaining at her home and her annual Christmas parties were a favorite tradition.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Theodore Leroy Crawford Jr., her second husband, the late James C. Fryslie, a brother, Paul Karl Hartsell, and a sister, Judith Carline Hartsell Dean.
She is survived by her son Theodore Leroy Crawford III (Lisa) of Crawfordville, FL, a daughter, Teresa Sue Williams of Tallahassee, FL, and a daughter, Susan Marie Willison (Robert) of Green Cove Springs, FL; seven grandchildren, Christopher Reeves, Kimberly Reeves, Jennifer Reeves, Jessica Reeves, Joshua Crawford, Aaron Gildea and Jesse Gildea, step-granddaughter Leanna Willison Harris and step-grandson Frank Willison; and eight great grandchildren.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at St. John the Evangelist Church with the Rev. Dan O'Connell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 Gornto Road, Valdosta, GA 31602.
