VALDOSTA —
Ruth McKinney, 88, formerly of Adel, passed away Monday March 4, 2013, at Cook Medical Center in Adel. She was born April 8, 1924, in Cook County, Ga., to the late Joseph “Joe” Perry Yawn and Sara Ressie Ray Yawn. Mrs. McKinney resided at the Rachel House in Sparks for the past year and in Meigs for seven years prior to that, but lived most of her life in Cook County. She was a member of Beulah Holiness Baptist Church and was retired from McKinney Oil Company where she served as a secretary.
Mrs. McKinney is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Cynthia McKinney of Meigs, Larry and Angie McKinney of Valdosta; one son-in-law, Richard Meredith of Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Perry McKinney, Jennifer Buckner, Katherine McKinney, Eugene McKinney Jr., Dean McKinney, Johnny Meredith and Joey Meredith; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Dan McKinney of Sparks; and one sister-in-law, Marcelle Wise of Houston, Texas.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph McKinney; daughter, Sara Meredith; and two grandsons, Ricky Meredith and Michael McKinney.
The McKinney family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel.
The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Beulah Holiness Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Sloan and the Rev. Kenneth Mathews officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel.
