Donald Fuller Bonner Sr., 81, of Lake Park died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Langdale Hospice House after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 9, 1931 in Valdosta to the late Thomas Carling and Carrie Fields Bonner and was a lifelong resident to this area. Mr. Bonner was a member of the Lake Park United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Bonner?s Mens Shop in Valdosta for many years before starting a career with Georgia Farm Bureau. Mr. Bonner was a 1957 graduate of the University of Georgia and a devoted Bulldog Fan. He was very active leader in the community and civic organizations and was loved by everyone who knew or ever met him. Mr. Bonner enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family at the beach.
Survivors include his wife, Jane M. Bonner of Lake Park, his children and their spouses, Kay and Scott Retterbush of Valdosta, Beth and Karl Lockhart of Leesburg, Don and Teresa Bonner of Valdosta, grandchildren, Christopher Retterbush, Jonathan Retterbush, Thomas Lockhart, Andrew Lockhart, Sarah Grace Bonner, Hannah Bonner, his sister, Mary Stalvey of Lake Park, sister in law, Sibyl McGlaun of Richland, GA, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Lockhart and four brothers, T. C. Bonner, Gene Bonner, Jerry Bonner and Fred Bonner.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA with Rev. Wayne Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 6-8pm.
