VALDOSTA —
Dixie Holmes, 83, of Adel, passed away Nov. 7, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Holmes was born Dec. 8, 1928, to the late Rudolph and Adeline Hicks Schultz. She was born in Cook County and attended schools in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina and graduated from GSCW in 1948. Mrs. Holmes taught in Cook and Berrien Counties for eight years. In 1972, she started working with the Cook County Library and worked there until she passed away. Mrs. Holmes was a member of the Adel Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Joel Holmes of Adel; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Edwin L. Deariso of Sylvester; two grandchildren, Shanna and James Watson, and Kayla Barnes; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Watson and Kaden Watson; very good friend and companion, Raymond Smith of Adel.
Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Holmes; and one brother, Carl Schultz.
Graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn City Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Stinson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adel Presbyterian Church or to Thornwall Home, PO Box 60, Clinton, S.C. or to your favorite charity.
