Billy Wayne Selph, 75, of Quitman, died Friday, Oct.12, 2012 in the Brooks County Hospital in Quitman. He was born on Sept. 6, 1937 in Valdosta to the late Jack Selph, Sr. and Mary Lumby Caroline McCranie Selph. Mr. Selph attended the Valdosta public schools and graduated from Valdosta High School in 1955 and was also a graduate of Valdosta State College. He was a member of Quitman First Baptist Church, a Mason and a Shriner. Mr. Selph served in the Army National Guard. He retired from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in 1995 as Captain of the Detective Division. Mr. Selph owned South Georgia Investigations, Inc. and retired in 2008.
He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Lumby Selph; his first wife, Carolyn Jean Davis Selph; and his brother, Jack Selph, Jr. Mr. Selph is survived by his wife, Gereline Selph of Quitman; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie-Marie and Ray Gupton of Valdosta; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Selph of Lake Park, Mark and Beth Selph of Valdosta; his stepdaughter and step son-in-law, Aimee and Jamie Carroll of Madison, Fla.; and his step-son and step daughter-in-law, Ashley and Beth Bass of Tallahassee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Daughtry and the Rev. Chris Hilliard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
