M. D. “Buddy” Meeks

-- — M. D. “Buddy” Meeks, 87, of Valdosta died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. He was born in Brocton, Ala. on Aug. 3, 1925 to the late John Franklin and Julia Johnson Meeks, and had lived in Valdosta for the past 63 years.

Buddy loved people and never met a stranger. He worked with Langdale Ford Company for 47 years, and he dedicated himself to selling Ford trucks and being of service to his customers. Buddy truly loved the Langdale Family. Prior to that, he managed the lumber yard for the J. N. Bray Company for 19 years. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, Billy Langdale and George (Red) Cross. Buddy loved hunting with Bob Langdale with whom he was very close. He enjoyed his friends in the “DP Boys Group” who gathered every Monday to eat fish and enjoy a card game for over 40 years. Buddy enjoyed gardening, tending to his horses for many years, square dancing and he called square dances for many years on Saturday nights. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife, Kaleda (Kay) Meeks; two sons and daughters in law, Roger D. and Barbara Meeks, Kenny V. and Beth Meeks all of Valdosta; four grandsons, Roger D., Jr. and Christen Meeks of Brooks County, Derry and Nicci Meeks of Barney, Kenny V. and Casey Meeks, Kyle Meeks all of Valdosta; three step-grandsons, Terry Godwin, James Godwin and Giles Godwin; four great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one sister, Eva Ray Weisgarber of Strasburg, Oh., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder Lynwood Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
