Norman Sainz Sr.

-- — Norman Sainz Sr., 94, died on Thursday, September 13, 2012 after a period of declining health. He was born in Staten Island, NY to the late Arthur T. Sainz and Ida Lindgren Sainz, who met at Ellis Island, NY- under the Statue of Liberty as they immigrated from Cuba and Sweden respectively. Mr. Sainz grew up in New York, but joined the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 7, 1941, the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. His military career eventually placed him at Moody Field here in Valdosta, where he met the former Louise Yale, and she became the love of his life. Mr. Sainz was well known for his business, Sainz and Son Painting Contractors, where his skills labeled him as a true artist in the field. This artistic skill was worked out in other projects where he could find and bring out the beauty of everyday items.

His skill in painting was matched by his work ethic, which was obvious to all for whom he worked. Mr. Sainz loved his church, Forrest Park Church of Christ. He had a passion for sharing the gospel with those he met and was a devoted supporter of world missions at his church. Locally he was active in prison and nursing home ministries. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Louise Yale Sainz, of Valdosta; two daughters, Shirlee Carroll and  Susan Giddens, both of Valdosta; and three sons and two daughters in law, Norman Sainz, Jr. and Tammy Denley, both of Lake Park, Stephen and Melanie Sainz of Valdosta and Scott and Jeannie Sainz of Richmond Hill; nine grandchildren, Ty Sainz of Sparks, Leslie (Chris) Stewart of Orlando, Austen (Holly) Carroll, of Savannah, Josh (Jenny) Carroll of Valdosta, Maggie (Michael) Ferguson of Valdosta, Windy Giddens (and Mark Powell) of Valdosta, Stephanie (Mike) Lindamood of Statesboro, Savanna Sainz of Statesboro and Shelby Sainz of Richmond Hill. Also surviving are a sister Ruth Murphy of Port Ritchie, FL; five great grandchildren, several sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews and a loving caregiver Angela Hart. He is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and a son in law, Bo Carroll. The family would like to express appreciation for the caring staff at Lakehaven Nursing Home and United Hospice.

Funeral services for Mr. Sainz will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Forrest Park Church of Christ. Minister Forrest Chapman will officiate the service. A private family committal will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, today, from 4 until 6 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at the church from 2 p.m. until service time. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Latin American Missions, c/o Forrest Park Church of Christ, P.O. Box 2330, Valdosta, GA 31604-2330. Condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www. Mclanecares.com. — Carson McLane Funeral Home.
