Harry L. Chaney, 90 of Lake Park passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 in South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on June 2, 1921 in Martinsville, Va. to the late John Andrew and Bessie (Rowland) Chaney. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Hydruss. Mr. Chaney worked with Owens Illinois for over 32 years. He worked as a furniture maker and a carpenter in the early part of his life. He owned and operated Chaney’s Lawn Care until his death. He was a member of Clyattville United Methodist Church. Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Barnes and Tootsie Turner, brothers, Jim Chaney and Robert Chaney, and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Dickerson Smith.
Mr. Chaney is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Theda Chaney of Lake Park; children, Steven (Victoria) Chaney, Lake Park, Twyla (Don) Selph, Lake Park; grandchildren, Donya (Anthony) Coggins, Brent (Christy) Chaney, Lisa (Chris) Guest, Kilia (Chad) McLeod, Shannon (Holley) Chaney, all of Lake Park; great-grandchildren, Ginna and Halleigh Chaney, Lindsay and Perry Coggins, Christian and Cason Guest, Caleb, Weston and Wyatt McLeod, Gareth Chaney, Rachel Woodward, Amanda (Matt) Hively; brothers-in-law, Grover Hudson (Cindy) Carter, Donald (Edna) Carter.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial to follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening, Feb. 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clyattville United Methodist Church, 5311 Railroad Street, Valdosta, GA 31601.
