VALDOSTA —
Mother Erma K. Rome-Robinson, 87, transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the presence of her family and Savior.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”
Mother Robinson was born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Dasher, Ga. to Rev. James and Irzonia Mitchell-Rome. She was the second child born to this union. She received her education in the Lowndes County School system. Upon the death of her mother, she became the mother figure of the family, at age eight. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She loved, taught, and nurtured her siblings to maturity. She was affectionately known as “Ermie” which was kindred to Mommie.
Mother Robinson was married to the late Mayo Robinson and was blessed with a wonderful family, Clarence, Calvin, James, Latrell, Mae Ella, Cornelius, Elizabeth, Lawrence, and Rose. After retiring from Levis, she enjoyed being at home with her family and “holding down her couch.” Mother Robinson loved the Lord, gospel music, her family, people, and especially children. The first thing you saw from her was a smile of welcome.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James and Irzonia Rome, husband, Mayo Robinson, children, Clarence Robinson, Mae Ella Bethay, and Lawrence Robinson; brothers, Parnell Rome, Frank Rome, Loranchell Rome, and James Rome Jr.; grandchildren, Phyllis, Arthur, Ilene, and Harriet.
Mother Robinson leaves to cherish her life five children; sons, Calvin (Lounelle) Robinson Sr., James M. Robinson, Valdosta and Cornelius (Daisey) Robinson, Somerset, N.J.; three daughters, Latrell Robinson-Parrish, Sacramento, Calif., Elizabeth Smith, Valdosta, Bessie Rose Haywood, Jacksonville, Fla., Big Mama’s Babies, Quineka Robinson, Valdosta, Kofie (Jerome) McCray, Havelock, N.C., Calvin Robinson, Jr. and Ebony Robinson, both of Valdosta, Zerek Stallworth Sr., Palm Bay, Fla., Kimberly Blanchard, Hampton, Va., and Cynthia Miller, Valdosta; siblings, Roberta (Johnny) Washington and Jewel (Rudene) Morgan; sisters-in-law, Leatha Rome, Emma Lee Rome, and Mary Rome. Mother Robinson is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; cousins; special friend, Doris Ponder; and other sorrowing friends. Special appreciation to the staff of United Hospice of Valdosta, Dr. Lynn Lee; caregivers, Penny Williams, Tchlandra “Nurse T” Emery, Monica Jones, Lilla Jenkins, Cora Davis, Salista McCutchin, Ernestine Stewart and Irene Brown.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Dasher Cemetery. Public viewing will be held today from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Stevens Funeral Home of Valdosta
