Alvin Levoy Register

-- — Alvin Levoy Register, 75, of Statenville, died on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Statenville on October 10, 1936 to the late Okane and Gertrude Elizabeth Spellers Register, he was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Register was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He went on to work for many years as a prison guard in Lowndes County and then later as a heavy equipment operator for Lowndes County. Mr. Register had a strong faith in God and was a member of Statenville Church of God. He was an avid fisherman, and spent many a good time with family and friends on the water. He was also loved playing and singing gospel bluegrass music and spending time at Mt. Zion Music Hall. He treasured his family and all the time that he spent with them, especially Birthday parties.  

Mr. Register is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Nell Register, of Statenville; a daughter and son in law, Karen and Ronald Watford, of Valdosta; two sons and daughters in law, Gregg and Annell Register and Clinton and Maria Register, all of Statenville; six grandchildren, Christy Sale of Lake Park, Ron Watford of Valdosta, Trent (Christine) Register of Lake Park, Casey (Shane) Kiselica of Echols County, Levoy Register of Statenville, and Chelsea Register of Clyattville. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Zach Sale, McKenzie Sale, Brylie Sale, Aulden Register and Colt Register, all of Lake Park; two brothers, Russell Register of Cairo and Arnold Register of Valdosta; four sisters and three brothers in law, Jeanette and Robert Maine of Palatka, Rachael and Johnny Chastain of Valdosta, Audrey and Bob Williams of Valdosta and Winnie Fae Trowell of Valdosta; several nieces, nephews and friends from the church, Mt. Zion Music Hall and the community. He is preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Register will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Statenville Church of God. Pastor Jaime Register will officiate. Burial will follow at Statenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park, this evening, Friday, July 20, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Statenville Church of God.
